WOMEN’S GOLF NEWS
From the Women’s Captain and President- 11/9/20
We are writing on behalf of the Women’s Committee hoping you are all keeping safe and well.
The news Sunday was not what we were hoping for and so our return to golf has been delayed, at this stage, until at least the end of October. Let’s hope that the numbers keep improving and the targets are met.
It seems unlikely that we will be able to play Club Championships this year and that the Christmas Party will not be able to go ahead. Initial thoughts are that we could have a lunch on Opening Day instead, depending upon the rules at the time. We are happy to take any suggestions that you may have on board.
The Committee have all been ringing members to keep us all in touch. Many members are meeting up for walks, doing online courses, jigsaws, home renovations, gardening, playing bridge, learning languages, and so on. If anyone has any suggestions to pass the time or keep in touch we are sure they would be well received.
The Medway website and newsletters have updates on the works that are progressing around the course.
Look forward to seeing you all post lockdown.
Janet Gangell and Jenny Kelly
Thank you, Jill
At the end of June Jill Gillingham, retired as Medway Women’s Captain. On behalf of our Women’s Committee and Women members, I would like to say thank you Jill.
Jill has been a wonderful captain during her two years in this role. Her expertise and knowledge that is required of a captain has enabled her leadership and legacy to be seen and valued. Jill has managed our weekly competitions and championships, and been a leader at Medway in Golf Australia’s Vision 2025. The latter has firmly laid foundation and pathways for the future of women and girls in golf at our club.
Thanks to Jill’s vision, a working party was set up so that more women and girls can play golf and the pathway developed encourages long term participation in golf at Medway.
We now have a 9hole competition on Tuesdays, a “5 holes for $5” on Wednesdays for those new to golf, and memberships to encourage greater participation in this wonderful sport.
Thank you Jill for your ability to accommodate everyone, your kindness and inclusivity of all.
I welcome Jenny Kelly as Medway Women’s Captain. And I look forward to our time together on committee.
